Onur Pusuluk organized a school titled “Thermodynamics vs. Quantum: From Fundamental Laws to New Technologies” at the Bilimler Köyü (Village of Sciences) in Foça. In this school, he addressed some of the fundamental discrepancies between thermodynamic and quantum theories, as well as contemporary approaches aimed at resolving them. He demonstrated how concepts like entropy and free energy fall short in describing the thermodynamics of out-of-equilibrium and highly correlated systems, such as quantum particles, and proposed alternative mathematical constructs. Furthermore, he explored under what conditions classical thermodynamic laws emerge in quantum systems, and examined how the interplay between information and energy can offer quantum thermodynamic advantages in both nature and technology. Additionally, he discussed how the thermodynamic arrow of time can be blurred in quantum systems and the potential technological applications of this phenomenon.
